Over 1,200 Hiking Enthusiasts Attend the Legendary Mountain Sports Event in the Tyrolean Alps

On 23 August 2025, Galtür once again played host to a truly special mountain sports highlight: the 52nd Silvretta Ferwall March. With perfect hiking weather and a stunning Alpine backdrop, the event drew a record-breaking number of participants to the Paznaun Valley – a total of 1,204 hiking enthusiasts from Austria and abroad set off to explore the impressive mountain landscape between the Silvretta and Verwall ranges.

FOUR ROUTES, ONE EXPERIENCE

Whether beginners, families with children or seasoned mountaineers – the Silvretta Ferwall March offered the right challenge for every fitness level:

• 13.5 km Family Route
• 19.2 km Silvretta Circuit
• 26.3 km Ferwall Circuit
• 42.2 km Marathon Distance

Clear panoramic views, fresh mountain air, and blooming alpine meadows turned every route into a memorable experience. Along the way, participants were supported at numerous refreshment stations offering regional delicacies – all made possible by over 100 dedicated volunteers.

GALTÜR AS A STAGE FOR LIVING MOUNTAIN TRADITION

The event was organised by the Silvretta Galtür Sports Club under the leadership of chairman Andreas Kathrein. As in every year, the focus was not on competition, but on sharing a collective experience in nature. Nevertheless, the evening celebration offered plenty of reason to honour individual and group achievements:

• The oldest participants, Rolf Klinge (born 1935) and Margarete Riedel (born 1937), were recognised for their remarkable performance.
• The group trophy went to Hotel Alpina with 84 participants, followed by Berghotel Rasis (52) and Hotel Landle (45).

MUSIC, EMOTION, AND A STRONG SENSE OF COMMUNITY

With live performances from two bands, a large raffle with instant prizes, and a special social gesture – the participant medals were produced by local sheltered workshops – the event offered emotional highlights and a festive atmosphere that lasted well into the evening.
