Nestled amid the endless mountain world, the Alpinarium in Galtür is a striking building. The experience museum is surrounded by a 345-metre-long and 16-metre-high protective wall. 700,000 kilograms of steel were used in the construction of the wall which protects the village of Galtür and its inhabitants from the forces of nature.
The museum serves as an exhibition space as well as an information and documentation centre. Inside the museum, it becomes evident that it has close ties to nature, with all exhibition rooms revolving around stone, ice, snow and water.
