New: Kopsseebahn in Galtür

Silvretta Galtür Mountain Railways are planning to build a new detachable 6-seater chairlift with weather protection hoods in the Kopssee area in 2026. The lift will replace the existing Kopssee Lifts I and II and will have a capacity of around 2,400 passengers per hour. A total of 56 chairs will be used. The lift will run over a horizontal distance of 1,125 metres from the valley station at 1,827 metres above sea level to the mountain station at 2,144 metres. The lift will utilise the former Höllkarbahn from Ischgl, which will undergo a comprehensive overhaul before being put into service.

Work on the building site is progressing rapidly:

At both stations – the uphill and downhill stations – the floor slabs and main columns are currently being concreted and the reinforcement tied in place. At the downhill station, the first walls of the service rooms are already taking shape. Progress is also being made on the piers: piers 12 and 13 have been fully concreted, pier 11 is currently being concreted, and pier 10 is being prepared for the next phase of concreting.

At the valley station of the new Kopsseebahn, Doppelmayr and our staff have begun installing the support structure and conveyor. Along the cableway route, the clearing of trees has already been completed, whilst concrete work is still underway on some of the pylon foundations. The work was also supported yesterday and today by the use of a helicopter.

At the same time, our staff are busy dismantling the supports of the old Kopssee lift.

At the mountain station, concrete work is currently underway on the station building and the staff facilities. Step by step, our new Kopssee cable car in Galtür is taking shape!

Over the past few weeks, the individual components for the supports have been assembled and prepared for transport. Three supports have already been erected using a mobile crane; the remainder will be flown to their designated locations by helicopter today and installed.

The concrete work has also been fully completed. Electricians, roofers and plumbers have already begun their work, and both station buildings are being insulated. The excavation work for the underground cables will be completed next week.

The next major step will take place next week: steelwork at the mountain station will commence.

Over the last few days, the route has been fully installed and surveyed.
On Wednesday, the moment finally arrived: the new haul rope, measuring 2,420 metres in length and weighing around 17.3 tonnes, was hoisted into place at the new Kopsseebahn. The cable was then joined using a short splice to form a continuous loop. This means that next week the route will be surveyed and precisely marked out.
Steelwork at the mountain station is also progressing very well. Our staff, as well as cable car manufacturers, plasterers, electricians, tinsmiths,… are working flat out so that we can start the first test runs in mid-October.

The avalanche protection barrier, the façade and the roof at the mountain station have been completed, and the chairlifts are being assembled and stored in the hall.
The installation of the conveyor belt at the valley station is also complete. The plasterers are currently at work and the first floor coverings are already being laid.  Work on the extension to the Kops pumping station is also progressing – the final concrete slab has already been poured there.
Well?! Who amongst you is already counting down the days until the first ride on the new Kopsseebahn?
